Kick off Community Rail Week at 7 pm on 1 June 2026 on the scenic Penistone Line with music while you travel.
Enjoy an acoustic set by the band Crazy Heart, performing onboard the train between Huddersfield and Silkstone Common, followed by an amplified performance at the Station Inn, Silkstone Common. Expect a lively mix of American and contemporary folk songs, with plenty of audience participation.
The event is free, but you will need to buy a rail ticket to travel before boarding the train.
Board the 19.11 train at Platform 1, Huddersfield station.
If we have a 3-carriage train, we will be in the middle carriage. If we have a 2-carriage train, we will be in the back carriage, furthest away from the driver.
You can join us from any station on the Penistone Line between Huddersfield and Silkstone Common. If you can’t find us, you can walk through all the carriages while the train is travelling (just open the connecting doors, and kindly close behind you).
Please note that the band will not play on a return journey to Huddersfield.
There is an alternative level access route from the platform at Silkstone Common to the Station Inn for anyone choosing not to use the station access staircase.
Return trains from Silkstone Common at 21.12, arriving in Huddersfield at 21.51, or later at 22.12, arriving in Huddersfield at 22.50.
(We do not advise travel on the 23.25 service as it is a bus replacement and does not get into Huddersfield until 1.07 am!)
