On 28 July, history panels were installed showing a selection of archive images about the railway in Denby Dale from the 1800’s to the 1960’s. This showcases some of the images that can be found in the railway section of Denby Dale & Kirkburton Archive Collection.
Plans are afoot to add more images to the archive, which were found and researched following 2025’s The Railway came to Denby Dale Exhibition, kindly researched by Hands on History Group to celebrate Railway 200. The exhibition ran throughout July 2025 in Denby Dale Library.
Many volunteer hours will be needed to add the content to the archive collection.
The waiting shelter looks fantastic now, with historical images showing Denby Dale station, with two platforms and railway staff. Also an image of the old wooden viaduct, before the present stone viaduct, a landmark in the local area, and route over which the Penistone Line rail service between Huddersfield and Sheffield runs.
