Denby Dale’s curved viaduct spanning the valley of the River Dearne is the most distinctive feature of the village, which is famous for a succession of world-beating giant meat and potato pies. There is a wide range of shops for a small village along the main road. Take a walk down Norman Road to find Springfield Mill Visitor Centre with businesses, shops, play areas and cafes. Denby Dale Walkers are Welcome have kindly developed walking routes and trails from the station. Find them here.

Denby Dale Parish Council

Denby Dale Station is proudly adopted through Denby Dale Parish Council. The volunteers supporting community rail projects bring a wide range of skills and play many different roles within the local community. They are also actively involved in local groups and initiatives, including the countryside project, schools, libraries, businesses, the Men’s Shed, Denby Dale Rotary, and the Parish Council itself.

Denby Dale is a village that truly comes together. Featured here are some of the completed projects at the station and across the village. The station celebrated its 175th Anniversary on 1 July 2025, as part of the national Railway 200 celebrations. Kate Tunstall led the station platform project for the 16 Arch Temporary Installation, which ran from 1 July to 31 August 2025. As part of the anniversary celebrations, Men’s Shed Denby Dale created a Locomotive sculpture to mark the station’s 175th year during Railway 200. This eye-catching piece was displayed outside the White Hart in Denby Dale village.

Historian and facilitator Susan Daniels of Hands on History worked with group members over six months to research and develop an exhibition and archive resources commemorating the 175th Anniversary of Denby Dale Station and Viaduct. The fact-filled exhibition was installed at Denby Dale Library, with assistance from Jan Goult, and ran throughout the anniversary month. The resources will gradually be uploaded to the Denby Dale and Kirkburton Archives, available online at: https://denbydalekirkburtonarchives.co.uk/archive/categories/denby-dale/the-railway-in-denby-dale

Denby Dale is also a haven for self-guided walks. More details can be found at: https://penline.co.uk/walks-trails/
