Following the announcement that industrial action has been suspended on Saturday 17th September, our PLP walk will be held .

 

Start: 10.15am at SHIREOAKS  station.   

Finish: KIVETON PARK (or KIVETON BRIDGE)

We start out on a scenic section alongside the canal to Turnerwood, then on public footpaths via Netherthorpe airfield, Harthill and Kiveton Community Woodland viewpoint. We finish along a section of the ‘Cuckoo Way’ canal towpath to Kiveton Park station for return trains – with a possible pub visit !

(Or finish at Kiveton Bridge station for return trains and buses).

The route uses canal towpaths, public footpaths across fields and some short sections along minor rural roads. Stile count = 4.

This walk is also part of the Chesterfield Canal Walking Festival.

Bring a packed lunch & drink and wear suitable clothing & footwear.

Distance:  approx. 8 miles.

Depart: Huddersfield 0810, Lockwood 0813, Berry Brow 0816, Honley 0820, Brockholes 0822, Stocksmoor 0827, Shepley 0829, Denby Dale 0834, Penistone 0842, Silkstone Common 0847, Dodworth 0851, Barnsley 0858, Wombwell 0904, Elsecar 0908, Chapeltown 0914, Meadowhall 0921 to arrive Sheffield 0928 then change to :

Depart: Sheffield 0937, Darnall 0943, Woodhouse 0949, Kiveton Bridge 0956, Kiveton Park 0959, to arrive SHIREOAKS 1005.

Depart: Lincoln 0915, Saxilby 0924, Gainsborough Lea Road 0935, Retford 0950, Worksop 1002 to arrive SHIREOAKS 1007.

(Please note : there are no facilities, WC etc. at Shireoaks station)

 

The National Mourning Guidance, issued by the Government, states:

“ There is no obligation to cancel or postpone events and sporting fixtures, or close entertainment venues during the National Mourning period. This is at the discretion of individual organisations. As a mark of respect, organisations might wish to consider cancelling or postponing events or closing venues on the day of the State Funeral, Monday 19th September. They are under no obligation to do so and this is entirely at the discretion of individual organisations.”
